Enhanced Wound Bed Preparation and Healing Outcomes Utilizing Low Frequency Ultrasound Assisted Wound Treatment Authors: Dot Weir, RN, CWON, CWSMelodie Blakely, MS, PT, CWSDabashish Chakravarthy, PhK, DAPWCA Poster Type: Case Series - We describe a low-frequency ultrasound based debridement technology that from our experience is relatively pain free and selective in its action, and present case examples.Introduction: Low frequency ultrasound technology has been in use in our busy outpatient wound center for over three years. We have had positive outcomes, as well as exceptional patient satisfaction, especially when compared to standard instrument sharp debridement. Our patients report less pain, enabling a more effective debridement and cleansing in the clinic setting using standard topical anesthetic agents. In our experience, the UAWT has proven to be useful not only in the debridement of wounds, but in wound bed preparation. The wounds were cleansed, and went onto healing without any disruption due to patient complaints of pain. This therapy has been utilized in our clinic for many wounds that need debridement and the usual associated pain is of concern. We have found that a maintenance UAWT only a regular basis has helped our patients and their wounds progress without incident.Method: We will present cases demonstrating our use of this revolutionary technology to enhance wound bed preparation as well as maintain a robust wound healing milieu, which has greatly enhanced our practice and clinical outcomes. Results: In our experience, the UAWT has proven to be useful not only in the debridement of wounds, but in wound bed preparation. The wounds were cleansed, and went onto healing without any disruption due to patient complaints of pain. This therapy will be utilized in our clinic for all wounds that need debridement and associated pain is of concern.
