Methodology This feasibility study was designed to determine the efficacy of a new wicking textile with silver*.Subjects from 4 nursing homes were enrolled after signing the IRB approved consent form. Subjects with skin folds were chosen following inclusion and exclusion criteria. Assessments were completed on day 1, 3 and 5 for erythema, maceration, denudement, itching/burning and odor. Results Twenty-one subjects were entered with unresolved intertrigo. There was a statistically significant reduction in erythema, itching/burning and odor and a significant reduction in maceration, denudement and satellite lesions by day 5. All of the subjects stated that their skin felt dry and the new wicking textile with silver was comfortable to use. ConclusionThe new knitted textile with silver provided the environment to relieve the symptom's of intertrigo and/or candidal intertrigo. |
