Case series presentation on the use of bi-layered living cell therapy in multiple lower extremity ulcerations First Author: Jeff Karr Authors: Jeffrey C. Karr DPM Among several commercially available bioengineered tissue grafts, there is only one bi-layered living cell therapy* that is approved by the FDA for the use with standard therapeutic compression in the treatment of non-infected partial- and full- thickness venous stasis ulcers as well as full thickness neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers. The bi-layered living cell therapy expresses multiple growth factors found in normal skin, and provides a biologically active matrix. This presentation looks at the possibility of this bi-layered living cell therapy* being beneficial in the management of multiple lower extremity ulcerations involving a series of ten patients with twenty three lower extremity ulcers. The bi-layered living cell therapy* was an extremely useful in healing these patients with multiple lower extremity ulcerations. The results suggest that bi-layered cell therapy* is beneficial in patients with multiple lower extremity ulcers.Product notation: * Apligraf© is a registered trademark of Novartis, Inc., East Hanover, NJ © 2004 Organogenesis, Inc., Canton, MA |
