Post-operative presentation using an acellular regenerative tissue matrix: what, how, and why? First Author: Stephen Brigido Authors: Brock Liden, DPM Treatment of the diabetic lower extremity wound has made great strides in recent years. There has been the development of many newer technologies including cell based wound therapy, the increased knowledge and understanding of basic principals such as offloading, and recently the increased use of technology such as regenerative tissue matrices. These have each shown significant benefits treating full thickness wounds both individually and sometimes together. While some of these advances are straightforward in their application and understanding, products such as regenerative tissue matrices can often lead to the surgeon becoming confused as to when to apply the product and if it is working correctly post-application. One particular regenerative tissue matrix is the Graftjacket for Ulcer Repair (Wright Medical Technology, Arlington TN). It has shown increased popularity because of its ability to treat both Wagner grade 1 and 2 wounds with a single application. This series of four (4) patients demonstrates the diveristy of situations a dermal scaffold can be used, as well as the variety of post-operative presentations the clinician will see during the healing process. |
